Working with an Injured Student

TOP TIPS FOR WORKING ONE TO ONE WITH AN INJURED STUDENT. ❤❤IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO FIX WHAT IS WRONG. BUT IT ALMOST ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO EASE THE DISCOMFORT BEING CAUSED BY WHAT IS WRONG. ❤❤

One of you regulars is injured. They have been told to attend Yoga. But it is obvious that they are unable, (at present) to fully participate in the classes you provide. They would like a private session(s) to gain insight into what they should or should not be doing.

How do you prepare a session for them, that is informative, appropriate and pain free. ✅Find out what their injury is. Research it and make sure you will not be adding to their discomfort. If you cannot see any useful information, explain this to them and ask for a detailed description of how it feels for them. . ✅ Make sure they have been cleared by a medical professional to participate in Yoga. Get this in writing if necessary. ✅ Establish any obstacles they might have. Have they been told to avoid certain movements or exercises. . ✅ If they have been prescribed exercises by a physical therapist. Ask to see them in advance so you are aware of what movements the therapist is in favour of. ✅ Do not try to fix them. Not your job. . ✅ Know your learning aim. You are trying to create pain free modifications to what you already teach in your class, so that they can participate more fully. ✅.Explain to them that everybody is different and that together you will come up with modifications that their individual body can achieve. . ✅ Observe them in the modifications and establish if it is in fact true that they are pain free. You could film them in the variation that suits them best to practice. . ✅ Keep the dialogue going for several weeks, asking if they are still pain free. . ✅ If you feel out of your depth- pass the client on.
